Abstract |
Burnt Down Scrub Nature Reserve vegetation mapping was undertaken by Dr John T. Hunter in 1999 by contract for the NPWS Northern Tableland Region. The reserve is 8 km NNW of the junction of the Mann and Clarence Rivers, 15 km SW of Baryugil and is separated by 4 km of cleared land from the Redbank Creek area of Washpool National Park. The reserve is included under Portions 94 and 99 of the Parish of Carnham and the County of Drake. The vegetation of Burnt Down Scrub Nature Reserve is described and mapped (scale1:25 000). Five communities are defined based on PATN analysis. Five communities are mapped based on ground truthing, air photo interpretation and landform. Most communities are of Open Forest and Closed Forest structure. The distribution of communities is related to past disturbances, particularly fire but also drainage and protection from the west. Many of the communities show considerable variation and intergrade along common boundaries. All communities are considered adequately represented in the current reserve network. VIS_ID 4720 |

Lineage |
The survey of the vegetation of the Burnt Down Scrub Nature Reserve was prepared by Dr John T. Hunter for J.A.Hunter Pty Ltd at the request of the New England Tablelands Region of the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service. The New England Tablelands Region required that existing information be collated and that 28 stratified random sites be surveyed in order to complete a comprehensive survey of the vegetation and flora of Burnt Down Scrub Nature Reserve. The report represents the findings of this survey. The collated information is to be used as a guide for management purposes. The requirements of the investigation were: 1. Collate existing information on the Burnt Down Scrub Nature Reserve. 2. Site placement based on selected environmental variables and distribution based on the area these variables occupy. 3. Identify weed species and their occurrence. 4. Identify ROTAP and TSC Act species and their occurrence. 5. Identify regionally significant species. 6. Provide known fire ecology information on species and communities. 7. Construction of a vegetation map based on communities as defined by PATN analysis. 8. Provide management recommendations. 9. Collection of voucher specimens for reference. |
