Abstract |
The data set is a digital representation of the coarse vegetation cover in the eastern plains, eastern slopes and tablelands (generally the eastern division of NSW). The data has been visually interpreted from 1:100,000 geo-rectified Landsat TM images in 1991/92 and then converted to grid. Spatial and classification accuracy of the data is consistent and of acceptable quality. Three structural vegetation databases of the eastern portion of NSW from approximately the Western Slopes to the coast, for use as broadscale management tools. Vegetation visually interpreted from Landsat imagery. The original aim of the mapping was to produce a single layer, however different levels of detail between the datasets has precluded this. Recommended scale of use is 1:250,000. VIS_ID 181 ANZLIG ANZNS0208000011 VISID 181 |

Lineage |
Data was captured as part of the Save the Bush funded Eastern Bushlands Database project. Linework derived by visual interpretation of hardcopy Landsat TM imagery printed at 1:100 000. Polygon's attributed by combination of visual interpretation and low intensity field work. Three separate datasets are similar but inadequate in enabling combination. Digitised in ERMS. Data then transferred into ARC/INFO. Three datasets stored and managed separately. These three datasets then converted to 100 metre cell grids and merged together with their individual attributes of Description and Vegtype maintained. This whole datasets then clipped to an area 100km West and 10 km East of coastline. |

DQ Completeness Commission |
|
Effective date |
2009-01-10 |
Explanation |
The dataset consists of three complete portions covering eastern NSW - Northern, Southern and Central. Classification at the species level was not possible due to the limitations of Landsat TM imagery interpretation. Therefore only community groups were labelled. |

DQ Conceptual Consistency |
|
Explanation |
The dataset has ARC/INFO polygon topology, all polygons are labelled. All spatial data has been checked visually and by available GIS package functions. |
DQ Topological Consistency |

Explanation |
Checked for missing attributes All attributes were checked |
DQ Absolute External Positional Accuracy |
|
Explanation |
Data should not be used at scales finer than 1:250 000. No formal accuracy assessment has been carried out. See following NPWS reports for details of methodology: Holme, L. (1993). Eastern Bushlands Database Project (Central Region). NSW NPWS internal unpublished document and Roberts, G. (1992). Vegetation systems of North East New South Wales: Mapped from Landsat TM imagery. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service NEP 91 298. |
DQ Non Quantitative Attribute Correctness |
|
Explanation |
No formal accuracy assessment has been carried out. See above NPWS reports. Attributes represent coarse vegetation types, grouped according to dominant species. |
