Ancillary report to 'Koala survey of the Mid North Coast assessment area'

In 2023, the NSW Government committed to establishing a Great Koala National Park on the Mid North Coast. To provide high-quality data on the koala populations in the 176,000 ha of state forest that is being considered for inclusion in the proposed Great Koala National Park, the Koala Science Team within the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water developed a survey for the area. Observations of other species were also made during the koala drone surveys, including 2 threatened glider species: the southern greater glider (Petauroides volans) and the yellow-bellied glider (Petaurus australis).

Overall, findings show substantial spatial variation in the abundance and distribution of southern greater gliders, and indicate the apparent rarity of yellow-bellied gliders in the assessment area and in the adjacent national parks.
