Title

Land management within capability monitoring MER 2008: final result map

Abstract

This ESRI shapefile with attribute table comprises final results for the Land Management within Capability (LMwC) theme from the 2008-2009 NSW Monitoring Evaluation and Reporting program. The LMwC evaluation system provides an indication the extent to which land is being managed within its capability by comparing the land & soil capability (LSC) ratings for each site with a measure of the potential impact of land management actions. It considers eight different land management hazards including sheet erosion, gully erosion, wind erosion, acidification, organic carbon decline, structural decline, salinity/waterlogging and acid sulfate soils. The shapefile gives results for 95 Soil Monitoring Units (SMUs) including (i) the overall LMwC index, (ii) the worst rated hazard and its index, and (iii) the worst rated hazard which is rated poor or worse and therefore of concern. Full results are presented and discussed in the Technical Report: OEH (2014), Soil condition and land management in NSW: final results from the 2008-09 monitoring evaluation and reporting program, http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/research-and-publications/publications-search/soil-condition-and-land-management-in-new-south-wales

Description:

An ArcGIS Server web service represents a GIS resource—such as a map, locator, or image—that is located on an ArcGIS Server site and is made available to client applications.

Depending on the layers enabled, this web service allow a user to query its features and/or visualise the dataset.

This service is aimed at advanced geographical information users, and will require access to geographical information system (GIS) software such as ArcGIS/ArcMap.

Lineage

Soil Monitoring Units were based on groupings of previously mapped soil-landscape units with similar land management issues. Land management data was gained from land management surveys completed by land holders over 661 sites. Land management activities were compared against the site Land and Soil Capability (LSC) to derive Land Management within Capability (LMwC) ratings for each hazard at each site (see Technical Report referred to above). These were then aggregated up to the whole site, then SMU and CMA.
