Abstract |
Land systems are areas or groups of areas throughout which there is a recurring pattern of topography, soils and vegetation. This vector dataset with accompanying hardcopy report describe 251 land systems for Western New South Wales. They provide soil and land resource information suitable to assist in broad scale land-use planning and land management. Land systems were mapped at a scale of 1: 250,000 scale. Related Datasets: The dataset area is also covered by the mapping of the Reconnaissance Soil and Land Resources of the Murray Catchment and Hydrogeological landscapes of NSW. Online Maps: This and related datasets can be viewed using eSPADE (NSW’s soil spatial viewer), which contains a suite of soil and landscape information including soil profile data. Many of these datasets have hot-linked soil reports. An alternative viewer is the SEED Map; an ideal way to see what other natural resources datasets (e.g. vegetation) are available for this map area. Lineage |
Land System polygons were originally mapped on hardcopy ortho photomaps. These were combined with ground traverses for field sampling and unit descriptions. Ortho photomap polygons were manually transferred to 1:250,000 base maps and published as individual map products to augment the report. Land Systems of Western NSW Published 1: 250,000 map tiles were digitised and tagged using GENAMAP GIS software then subsequently merged into a seamless coverage. Prior to recent updates this merged dataset only included mapping within the Western Division extent. This latest vector dataset now includes: * All digitized 1:250 000 Land System maps merged as a seamless layer.* Accurate Lachlan and Barwon River boundaries along the southern and north eastern map edges, * The inclusion of a few polygons missing from the earlier merged Land System dataset. |
