Lineage |
The methodology to map different types of grasslands and grassy woodlands generally follows the approach used in the study "Remote Sensing Detection of Native Grasslands using Multi-Image Spectral Analysis - South Eastern Highlands of NSW". This study was completed by ERIC in 2001 for NSW NPWS. The basic steps of this methodology are: Classify the imagery to identify the non-grassland areas, such as water, urban and forest. Exclude non-grassland areas from subsequent analyses by masking them in the imagery. Use images from spring, winter and summer to enhance the discrimination of native grassland. Classify the grassland areas to discriminate categories such as native grassland, exotic grassland and grassy woodland. Revision of mapping - 2005: Additional ground-truthing datapoints were surveyed. These were targeted particularly to the previously under-sampled mapping units within the Snowy-Monaro Grassland Strategy Pilot Project area. New ground-truthing datapoints were also collected from some other under-sampled regions, including the Dry Plains, Adaminaby, Jindabyne and Kybean. New data were collected using standard 20 x 20 m plots and species information was collected using Braun-Blanquet cover-abundance scores. Other data attributes were collected, consistent with the 2004 project. |
