Native Vegetation of the Tullamore 1:100 000 VIS_ID 1601 |
Alternative title(s) |

Abstract |
This amp describes the native vegetation communities that occur within the Tullamore 1: 100 000 map sheets. Native vegetation includes both woody (i.e. open forests, woodlands and open woodlands) and non-woody communities (i.e. grasslands and forblands). The study area is located in the central western region of New South Wales and is part of a project that encompasses parts of six Local Government Areas: Bogan, Forbes, Lachlan, Narromine, Parkes and Warren; and includes the major settlements of Condobolin, Forbes (western part), Tottenham, Trangie, Trundle and Tullamore. It incorporates parts of three Native Vegetation Regions: North Lachlan - Bogan; Mid-Lachlan; and Lower Macquarie - Castlereagh; ; VIS_ID 1601 |

Lineage |
The spatial vegetation patterns were described using API and assisted by satellite imagery. Preliminary API coding was applied and then revised subsequent to data analysis. Random stratified sampling, based on physical environmental attributes (e.g. soil landscapes, temperature and rainfall) was adopted for the field sampling. Additional layers were applied to distinguish between 'woody' and 'non-woody' vegetation and each layer was independently sampled. A total of 850 plots were sampled across the study area.; Plot data were classified into 41 woody and 20 non-woody floristic groups using pattern analysis. API codes were interrogated with respect to floristic groups to produce the map units. A total of 21 woody map units were developed to represent woody assemblages. Six broad map units based on landform patterns represent non-woody assemblages. Map units are described with respect to structure, floristic composition and landform unit. These map units were placed into broad landscape and vegetation classes for the six map sheets. |
