Vegetation mapped from aerial photographs and ground truthed. Published Cunninghamia 2(4):541-596 at 1:100,000 scale. Digitising completed 1997 using ERMS GIS, errors corrected using ERMS prior to conversion to ArcView shapefile using wpo2shp.exe program.

Explanation

The GIS package ERMS was used to do a topological consistency check to ensure all polygons are closed, nodes are formed at intersection of lines, all polygons are labelled once and there are no duplications. After capture, the coverage was checked against original air photomapping and errors corrected. A final error percentage of,1% was recorded.

Precision: 75m to 100m. Determination: Deductive estimate. Comparison with 1:25,000 layer data indicated good correlation but with errors of the order indicated above in terms of position.

The label field indicates the vegetation classifications included in the mapping. These have been interpreted from aerial photographs, ground truthed and described by botanists and professionals from the Royal Botanic Gardens.
