Abstract

Very Little is known about the origins of this data set. It is assumed to be created circa 1953, based in part (at least) on the report by C.W.E. Moore (1953) The vegetation of the South-Eastern Riverina, New South Wales. Aust. Journal of Botany. Volume 1 (3), Pages 485-547”

New South Wales Murray Catchment Pre-European Broad Vegetation Types. Modelled pre-European Vegetation Types reclassified and grouped to produce a seamless NSW Murray Catchment data set. VIS_ID 4108

Lineage

Three data sets were reclassified and combined to produce this data set. The three were - 1. Western Riverina Pre-European Vegetation, 2. The Vegetation Of The South-Eastern Riverina, NSW - The Climax Communities, CSIRO (Moore) 1948 and 3. Pre-1750 Forest Ecosystems, Western Sub-Region, Southern CRA ("1750-1911").

Regional vegetation experts combined and reclassified the specific vegetation types into "broad vegetation types" to be consistent across the three data sets.

Explanation

The broad vegetation types have been developed to make the data useable to 'non-experts' while maintaining suitable standard.

Explanation

Maps have been examined by a number of people with local knowledge and have been found to be acceptable. Some inaccuracies occur with small areas of vegetation being combined into a broad vegetation type that may not adequately describe the smaller type.
