Abstract |
Major operating mines in NSW, including locations, names and the resource being mined. The Geological Survey of NSW has developed a major NSW operating mineral mines layer by harvesting Geoscience Australia operating mine data and internally reviewing and updating the listing. Only select major operational mine sites were included in this layer with additional industrial mine sites identified. This data has subsequently been released as a static map layer as part of Common Ground https://commonground.nsw.gov.au/#!/ an online web application that provides a clear explanation of mining and production title processes. |

Lineage |
The major operational mines layer, distributed through Common Ground, was compiled from Geoscience Australia operational mines data, which was internally reviewed and updated to produce a select list of major operating mineral mine sites. The data from Geoscience Australia is released on an annual basis as part of the Australia Mines Atlas. Additional major operational industrial mine sites were identified and included as part of this listing. Although the data is stored in vector form it is presented as a static base map layer in theCommon Ground web application. |
