Abstract |
Each feature in this layer represents an on-ground Saving our Species (SoS) management site for a NSW threatened species or ecological community. Sites do not necessarily represent the entire distribution of the species or ecological community. Species or ecological community experts originally identified the location and extent of management sites, and the spatial geometry is maintained and updated to reflect new information on an on-going basis by the SoS Project Coordinator via the SoS Database. In this publicly available dataset, if the species is considered sensitive as per the NSW Government Sensitive Species Data Policy, or if the site has restricted access, then a site is denatured to its Local Government Area extent. Sites are justified as either priority or contributing sites. Priority sites are where experts have determined that managing threats will lead to securing threatened species and ecological communities in the long term. Contributing sites are where threat management being undertaken may support a threatened species or ecological community. Access the Saving our Species conservation strategy public register for more information on proposed and active SoS management of threats to threatened species and ecological communities. About: Saving our Species (SoS) is an ambitious conservation commitment being undertaken in New South Wales. It is a movement involving volunteers, scientists, businesses, community groups and the NSW Government, all coming together to secure the future of Australia’s unique plants and animals. The objective of SoS is straightforward: to maximise the number of threatened species that are secure, and threatened ecological communities that are viable, in the wild in New South Wales for 100 years by mitigating the critical threats facing our threatened plants and animals at priority and contributing management sites. |

Lineage |
Each feature in the layer represents the boundary of a management site (SiteName) as part of a conservation project for a particular species (CommonName) under the Saving our Species Program. The location and extent of management sites were originally designed by a panel of species experts, however the spatial geometry is maintained and updated to reflect new information on an ongoing basis by the SoS Project Coordinator via the Saving our Species Database. The layer contains all SoS management sites and is only for use by internal Program staff. Due to the restricted or sensitive nature of some sites and/or species, the layer cannot be shared with any individuals or parties outside of the Environment, Energy, and Science Group without the explicit permission of the SoS Data Custodian. |

DQ Completeness Commission |

Effective date |

Explanation |
Some records in the dataset are as a result of spatial join processes and are not actually spatial features. Typically, these are features where the AreaOfSitePolygonHa is 0 or null. Those sites are usually belonging to projects within the Data-deficient or Keep Watch management streams. |
DQ Completeness Omission |
|
Effective date |
2019-12-02 |
Explanation |
The dataset does not define whether the conservation project or the site is being actively managed (i.e. the status of the project or site). Users of the data should refer to the Saving our Species public web application for this information at http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/savingourspeciesapp/ |
DQ Absolute External Positional Accuracy |
|
Effective date |
2019-12-02 |
Explanation |
Features in the dataset may not be an accurate representation of where conservation works are being implemented e.g. a National Park boundary may be mapped as the management site even though works are being implemented in a smaller discrete area of the Park. |
