Sutherland Shire Vegetation Communities Map, 2005. VIS_ID 3963 |
Alternative title(s) |
SutherlandLGA_2005_E_3963 |
Abstract |
Vegetation types including Endangered Ecological Communities (EEC's) in the Sutherland Shire. Coverage does not extend across all of national park estate. The data displays the distribution of EEC's based on the characteristics of the final determinations presented by the Scientific Committee under the Threatened Species Conservation Act or the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. Other vegetation communities are based on vegetation types and descriptions published in Cunninghamia 3(4): 677-1004 1994 The Natural Vegetation of the Sydney 1:100000 map sheet. Vegetation distribution is based on interpretation of 2001 aerial photographs, topography and extensive ground truthing. Purpose: Terrestrial vegetation of SSC. To assist with the management of bushland and natural areas in the Shire. To enable staff to determine the location and distribution of threatened species (EEC'S) and other vegetation types. Updated by 2011 vegetation map (see VIS_ID 4198). VIS_ID 3963 |

Purpose |
Terrestrial vegetation of Sutherland Shire Council as per 2005 Aerial Photography. To assist with the management of bushland and natural areas in the Shire. To enable staff to determine the location and distribution of threatened species (EEC'S) and other vegetation types.Note that 2011 vegetation data for Sutherland LGA are also available (VIS_ID 4198) |

Explanation |
Vegetation communities other than EE's were classified into broad types. Sydney Sandstone Gully Forest and Sydney Sandstone Ridgetop Woodland contain several sub-communities based on dominant species alliances. At this stage the broad classification is sufficient but future mapping may differentiate and include a more complex classification. An additional report describing the communities, their habitats and species composition including images is expected to be included with the 2006 updated data. |

Explanation |
Vegetation boundaries were identified on 2001 aerial photographs and the boundaries and species composition were confirmed in the field. |
