Abstract |
Vegetation Community Mapping for Valla Nature Reserve and Jagun Nature Reserve and some surrounding areas. North Coast NPWS Region and DLWC Contracts. ; ; Valla (also known as valla west/valla region veg) & Jagun veg mapping was undertaken by Greg Elks as a contract for NPWS in 2004. VIS_ID 685; ; Penny Kendal undertook the Valla coast veg mapping in a separate project for DLWC in 2003. When Valla NR was created this veg mapping was included and processed in the Reserves veg area.; ; Greg Elks was contracted by NPWS in 2009 to review the three vegetation datasets and make the community names consistent. The ID appropriate fire classes (relevant to fire regime thresholds to maintain the community) were also added and these are listed in the Fire_Class field in attribute table. |

Lineage |
Valla (also known as valla west/valla region veg) & Jagun veg mapping was undertaken by Greg Elks as a contract for NPWS in 2004.; ; Penny Kendal undertook the Valla coast veg mapping in a separate project for DLWC in 2003. When Valla NR was created this veg mapping was included and processed in the Reserves veg area.; In 2007 Anni Blaxland, Northern GIS Support Officer, adjusted the boundaries slightly to fit the landscape. Cleared areas were added and the boundary between Jagun and the Valla Coast mapping was adjusted to removed overlaps should the separate veg maps be used in conjunction. ; ; Greg Elks was contracted by NPWS in 2009 to review the 3 veg datasets and make the community names consistent. The ID appropriate fire classes (relevant to fire regime thresholds to maintain the community) were also added and these are listed in the Fire_Class field in attribute table.; ; Valla coast veg linework was also modified in 2009 by Lyn McRae, Technical Officer GIS, Parks & Wildlife Group. Ground Contol Points (GCPs) were captured in the field with a hand held GPS and then more GCPs were captured on screen using the 2000 LPI Orthophoto as a background. ShapeWarp for ArcView 3 was then used to warp the mapping to more accurately align it to the landscape. A total of 25 control-points were used for the warp process as this gave the least error and a reasonable alignment result. Additional adjustments were digitised on screen and then edited, particularly in cleared areas and the beach. ; ; In 2011 in preparation for P drive the three datasets were merged to create Valla_Jagun_veg and topology was checked and corrected. This included the removal of internal overlaps and small polygons. |
