Abstract |
This dataset was superseded by the State Vegetation Type Map (https://datasets.seed.nsw.gov.au/dataset/nsw-state-vegetation-type-map) on 24.06.2022. Map prepared for Wingecarribee Shire Council: Wingecarribbee Biodiversity Strategy, Phase One. 2003 Vegetation mapping. Classification and modelling of floristic and environmental data using PATN analyisis. Variables include: geology, soil landscapes, rainfall, temperature, DEM, wetness, slope, aspect, hillshade and existing vegetation mapping. VIS_ID 2388 |

Lineage |
An audit of existing data was undertaken. This was to ensure that previous survey effort was not replicated, thus maximising the benefit of this projects' survey program, and to ensure consistency with existing vegetation datasets. The survey program was undertaken in close consultation with the NPWS, NSW Department of Land and Water Conservation (DLWC) and Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) who were all undertaking various survey programs that covered part or all of the Shire. Extant (remaining) vegetation was mapped within the ArcView GIS system from 1:40,000 scale digital aerial photos flown in late 2001. These photos were provided by the Sydney Catchment Authority. Digitising was performed manually 'on-screen' to delineate vegetation remnants 0.5 hectares or larger, cleared land, water bodies, pine plantations, swamps and mined swamps. Vegetation remnants were only mapped if the crown canopy coverage of a remnant was at least 10%. Vegetation condition has not been mapped and there is no discrimination between thinned and natural cover. Consequently vegetation in poor condition is included in the vegetation map and will contribute to extant figures shown in Table 1. |
