Abstract |
The objective of this project was to accurately define and map the vegetation communities occurring on the Bellata, Gravesend, Horton and Boggabri map sheets (the study area) at 1:100 000 scale. These contiguous map sheets are located in the north of NSW incorporating part of the catchments of the Gwydir and Namoi Rivers. The API process for the Native Vegetation Mapping Program is detailed in the Guidelines. DLWC conducted API for the Bellata and Gravesend sheets, and API for the Horton and Boggabri sheets was contracted to the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). Whilst the published map scale was to be 1:100 000, it was determined that the base layer should be digitised at 1:50 000 and consist of satellite imagery obtained for the region for October 1999. Existing aerial photography was available at a range of dates and scales for the four map sheets. The aerial photography used by DLWC was the most recent photography available and at a scale of 1:50 000. The API completed by NPWS originally utilised 1991 photography at a scale of 1:25 000. Some selective re-interpretation was carried out on certain attributes by using more recent photography, to bring the Horton and Boggabri spatial layers into compliance with the Guidelines and to bring the linework up to date. While the dates of the photography varied over the study area, all interpretation was accurate to 1999 satellite imagery. |
