Abstract |
"Vegetation map digitised from Porteners, M.F. (2000). Vegetation Survey of Mullion Range SRA & Wambool, Freemantle, Girralang & Eugowra Nature Reserves (Central West District of NSW). Report for the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. (NSW NPWS, Sydney).; The composition and extent of the present vegetation within Wambool, Freemantle, Girralang and Eugowra Nature Reserves and Mullion Range State Recreation Area (SRA), in the Central West region of NSW, is described and mapped at 1:25 000 scale (1:50 000 scale for Eugowra) from intensive quadrat samples, field traverses and aerial photograph interpretation. Eleven vegetation communities are described and 302 species (308 taxa) of vascular plants recorded from 70 families, several of which are at their geographical limits or regionally restricted. Colour aerial photographs at 1:25 000 scale (taken in October 1989 for Wambool, August 1998 for Freemantle, Girralang and Mullion Range) and black and white photographs at 1:50 000 scale (taken in September 1989 for Eugowra) formed the basis of the vegetation map polygons. The images were interpreted stereoscopically for patterns of the vegetation and geomorphology, and matched to the vegetation site data. A provisional vegetation map was drafted and the linework and boundaries checked during ground-truthing. The study area was traversed and particular sites investigated to confirm polygons labels and resolve vegetation boundaries. The final vegetation polyons were then transferred and corrected to the topographical map sheets and coded, ready for digitising into a geographic information system. |
